On the afternoon of November 14, 2024, the delivery ceremony for the first 220kV AC cable using Wanma insulation materials and the launch ceremony for the Yujiaqiao Road Cable Relocation Project in Hangzhou Railway North Station Unit were successfully held. This event not only showcases a significant technological breakthrough but also marks an important step toward the domestication of China's power industry supply chain. Wanma (Zhejiang) High-Voltage Materials Co., Ltd. provided the 220kV domestic insulation material for this cable. This application achieved the continuous extrusion of a 220kV, 2500mm2 cable over a long length of 7.2 kilometers and weighing 50 tons, thoroughly validating the domestically produced 220kV cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation material. This achievement signifies important progress in the field of high-voltage cable insulation materials in China.

For a long time, the insulation materials for high-voltage cables have mainly relied on imports, which to some extent has restricted the construction and development of China's power grid. Through continuous technological accumulation and experimental validation, the Wanma project team has broken through the core process technologies of insulation materials, achieving large-scale production of ultra-high-voltage domestic insulation materials. By independently researching and producing these materials, the security and self-reliance of the industrial chain have been significantly enhanced.

The successful delivery of this cable promotes self-sufficiency in the industrial chain and demonstrates the excellent performance indicators and processing technology of China's high-voltage cable insulation materials. It also highlights the trend of China gradually shifting from import dependency to independent innovation in the global power supply chain.

At the ceremony, the project leader of State Grid expressed that the demonstration application of the 220kV long-length cable using domestic materials is the first large-scale engineering application of 220kV cables based on domestically produced insulation materials within the company's system. This application is of great significance for achieving self-reliance and autonomous control in China's high-voltage cable industry chain.

Striving forward and building on past successes, with continuous technological advancements and the perfection of the industrial chain, Wanma will continue to participate in self-research and development projects. This will promote the comprehensive development of the cable material industry chain in China and pave the way for broader autonomy in power supply.
